It has seven campuses in the capital and its surroundings, and also teaches at Extra Mural Centres in the country's provincial headquarters.
UoN offers approximately two hundred programmes in the sciences, applied sciences, technology, humanities, social sciences and the arts, including regular, evening and weekend programmes and fee-paying continuing education (Module II) programmes. Its faculties include:

The university has more than 10,000 beds for students, allocated on a competitive basis through an online room application, and partners with private hostels near the city.

Admission
There are two routes into UoN. Government-sponsored undergraduates are placed on merit by the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) and must meet the minimum admission requirements of the relevant regulating authority. Self-sponsored undergraduate and postgraduate students apply through the university's online application system, which lists courses, intakes, deadlines and requirements. Applicants must provide a current email address, phone number and postal address, certified scanned copies of certificates and transcripts, and a passport photo. The university does not use agents, and closing dates cannot be extended.
Scholarships and financial aid
Kenyan students, whether government- or self-sponsored, can apply for loans and bursaries from the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB). The loans carry 4% annual interest and are repaid after graduation; they are not automatic and must be applied for through the student portal.
Housing
The university has more than 10,000 student beds, allocated on a competitive basis through an online room application system. It also partners with private hostels close to the city, such as Qwetu hostels, YMCA and Golfview Sports hostels. Questions about room applications go to [email protected].
