The University of Southern Maine (USM) is a public university in southern Maine, in the United States. Its main campus is in Portland, Maine's largest city; the Gorham campus, 11 miles away, is the residential centre of undergraduate life and houses athletics and the visual and performing arts. A campus in Lewiston offers healthcare-focused programmes in partnership with other University of Maine System schools, and an online campus delivers courses and full degrees remotely. A free bus links the campuses and the greater Portland area.

SAT and ACT scores do not influence undergraduate admission, and GRE and GMAT scores do not influence graduate admission. Financial aid includes federal, state and university grants, federal loans, work study and scholarships, and residents of five other New England states can obtain reduced tuition for some programmes. Graduate programmes
USM lists 91 graduate programmes, including master's degrees, doctoral programmes, certificates of graduate study and of advanced study, many of them online. Examples:
- Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (MS in Nursing)
- Creative Writing (MFA, low-residency)
- Counseling, with clinical mental health, rehabilitation and school counselling concentrations

GRE and GMAT scores do not influence graduate admission.
Scholarships and financial aid
USM's Student Financial Services helps students and families with federal, state and university-funded grants, federal student loans, work study and scholarships and can help with the FAFSA application. According to the university, it awards over US$30 million in grants and scholarships each year and the average undergraduate aid package is over US$14,000 per year. Through the NEBHE Tuition Break Program, residents of Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont pay reduced tuition for some degree programmes.
