University of East London

University in London, The United Kingdom

The University of East London (UEL) is a university in east London, founded in 1898, that describes itself as a careers-first university. It has two campuses: Stratford, close to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, and Docklands, on the Royal Albert Dock waterfront. Teaching is organised into five schools:

  • Architecture, Computing and Engineering
  • Arts and Creative Industries
  • Health, Sport and Bioscience
  • Childhood and Social Care
  • Royal Docks School of Business and Law

UEL offers undergraduate degrees, foundation years, postgraduate courses (including an MBA) and research degrees. International students apply directly through the course pages, via UCAS or, for North American undergraduates, through the Common App; Clearing is not open to international students. Students who need to improve their English can take an online Pre-sessional English programme, and a Malvern International study centre on campus offers pathway programmes into UEL degrees. The university offers international scholarships and discounts of up to £5,000, and on-campus accommodation at the Docklands Student Village, where international students are welcome to apply.

Programmes

Undergraduate degrees (average length three years) are offered across:

  • Business
  • Health and social care
  • Science
  • Education
  • Arts and creative subjects
  • Engineering

Many courses can be started with a foundation year, an extra year of study for students who do not meet the standard entry requirements. Some courses also start in January or November.

Admission

Entry requirements vary by course; each course page lists the grades or qualifications, subject requirements and any relevant experience required. International students apply online through the course pages (free of charge) and the Applicant Portal, through UCAS or, for North American undergraduates, through the Common App. After accepting an offer, applicants pay a tuition fee deposit and pass pre-CAS checks, which may include a pre-CAS interview, a TB test certificate and financial (maintenance) evidence, before a CAS for the Student visa is issued. Portfolios are uploaded via the Applicant Portal.

Language requirements

All students must meet UEL's standard English language requirements. Several tests and qualifications are accepted, IELTS being the most common, and some students can meet the requirement through previous study in English or country-specific awards. Applicants who do not yet meet the requirement may be offered an online Pre-sessional English programme before their degree; no separate application is needed.

Fees

Tuition fees for new full-time international students in the 2026-27 academic year:

  • Undergraduate degrees: £16,020 per year
  • Postgraduate courses: from £16,020 per year (fees listed on each course page)
  • MBA: £19,500 per year (full time); MBA with Placement: £19,500 in year 1 plus a £3,500 placement fee in year 2

A tuition fee deposit is required before a CAS is issued, and a 5% discount applies when fees are paid in full before mid-September of the starting year.
