The University of Southern Queensland (UniSQ) is a regional, research-intensive Australian university, established in Toowoomba in 1967 and a member of the Regional Universities Network (CRICOS QLD 00244B). It has three campuses in Queensland: Toowoomba, about 90 minutes' drive from Brisbane, Springfield and Ipswich, plus a business engagement hub in Brisbane. More than 20,000 students study with UniSQ, and over 130 degrees can also be studied online. UniSQ states that it is in the top 410 of the 2026 QS World University Rankings.

Study areas are arts and communication, aviation, business, education and teaching, engineering and surveying, health, information technology, law, and sciences and agriculture, with undergraduate, postgraduate and research degrees, double degrees and short courses. Facilities include an astronomy observation centre, engineering laboratories, a Boeing flight simulator at Springfield, nursing and midwifery wards and TV and radio studios. International students who do not yet meet the English requirement can take English language and foundation programmes.

There is no application fee. Applicants can apply directly or through a UniSQ agent (agents only for Africa, the Middle East and the subcontinent). On-campus accommodation is offered at three residential colleges in Toowoomba: McGregor, Concannon and Steele Rudd.

Admission Requirements

No application or assessment fee. Applicants need a recognised previous qualification meeting the degree's entry requirements (country-specific for undergraduate study), must meet the English requirements and the Genuine Student criterion for a student visa. Certified copies needed:

  • Photo identification
  • Evidence of English proficiency
  • Senior high school certificate and transcripts
  • Post-secondary certificates and transcripts, if any
  • Evidence of work experience, if any

Language Requirements

For most degrees: Academic IELTS 6.5 overall with no band below 6.0, or secondary school in an accepted English-speaking country, or 2+ years of full-time tertiary study in an English-speaking country, or an approved English or Foundation pathway programme at the Union Institute of Language (UIL). Education, allied health, psychology and nursing degrees have higher requirements.

Housing

On-campus accommodation is available at the Toowoomba campus in three residential colleges (McGregor, Concannon and Steele Rudd), with utilities, unlimited internet and parking included; short-stay options also exist. Students at all locations can live off campus, using the UniSQ Accommodation Listings website, and a Student Advisor (Wellbeing) helps with renting questions.
