The University of West Florida (UWF) is a public university based in Pensacola, Florida, with additional locations in the region (including UWF Emerald Coast) and online programmes. Its 1,600-acre campus is a short drive from the beaches and downtown Pensacola. UWF has more than 14,000 students and offers more than 110 undergraduate, graduate and doctoral programmes, including more than 70 undergraduate programmes; it has awarded more than 134,000 degrees.

UWF hosts more than 300 international students from more than 85 countries. International applicants with fewer than 12 college credits apply as freshmen and those with 12 or more as transfer students; freshmen need a credential evaluation of their secondary school transcript, a GPA of at least 2.50/4.00 and SAT, ACT or CLT scores, while English test scores apply mainly to transfer students with 60 or more credits. International Programs advises admitted students on immigration regulations and university policies.

Tuition is set annually by the Florida Legislature. For 2026-27, undergraduate tuition for non-Florida residents is $707.03 per credit hour on the Pensacola campus. The university has more than 130 registered student organisations.

More than 70 undergraduate programmes, part of a total of more than 110 undergraduate, graduate and doctoral programmes, taught on the Pensacola campus, at UWF Emerald Coast or online. Classes are small, with hands-on learning and leadership opportunities.

Admission Requirements

International applicants are classified by college credits: freshmen (0-11 credits), freshman-transfers (12-29) and transfers (30-59 and 60+). Requirements:

  • Freshmen: secondary school transcript with credential evaluation, GPA of at least 2.50/4.00 and SAT, ACT or CLT scores meeting UWF regulations
  • Transfers: college GPA of at least 2.00/4.00 overall and at the last institution
  • Transfers with 60+ credits: English Composition and college-level Mathematics with a C or higher, and proof of English proficiency unless from an exempt country

Language Requirements

For students with fewer than 60 credit hours, English proficiency is shown through the SAT or ACT admission scores. Students with 60 or more credits can use an English test with these minimum scores: TOEFL 79 (tests before 21 January 2026) or 4.5 (from that date); IELTS 6.0; CEFR B2; Duolingo English Test 110; PTE 53; Cambridge English 175; Oxford Online Placement Test B2.

Tuition per credit hour, 2026-27, Pensacola campus (excluding market-rate and self-supporting programmes): non-Florida residents $707.03 (undergraduate) and $1,137.43 (graduate); Florida residents $213.23 and $378.85. Tuition is set annually by the Florida Legislature; additional fees apply.
