Florida International University (FIU) is a public research university in Miami, Florida, designated a Preeminent State Research University. It has been operating for more than 50 years and, according to the university, has more than 54,000 students. The main campus, the Modesto A. Maidique Campus, covers 342 acres and offers residence options; the 200-acre Biscayne Bay Campus on the waterfront hosts journalism and communication, hospitality and creative writing. FIU also teaches at FIU Downtown on Brickell (graduate business courses), in Washington, D.C. and in Genoa, Italy.
FIU offers more than 200 bachelor's, master's and doctoral programmes in 12 colleges, both on campus and fully online; FIU Online has over 130 degrees and programme tracks. Main areas include:
