Barry University is a Catholic university founded in 1940 by the Adrian Dominican Sisters. Originally called Barry College for Women, it is now coeducational and grounded in the liberal arts tradition. Its main campus is in Miami Shores, a few miles from downtown Miami, Florida; the Dwayne O. Andreas School of Law is in Orlando, and classes are also offered at other locations in Florida, online and in the Bahamas.

Barry offers more than 50 undergraduate majors and more than 50 graduate programmes, including specialist, master's and doctoral degrees, in fields such as health professions and medical sciences, business, education and the arts. Its colleges and schools include arts and sciences, business, health sciences, nursing, podiatric medicine (Doctor of Podiatric Medicine in four years) and law. The student-faculty ratio is 15:1, and study abroad, service learning and internships are part of the curriculum.

Students come from many different countries. Housing and Residence Life offers rooms in residence halls on the main campus, including themed housing in Weber Hall, and has specific information for international students.
