West Chester University of Pennsylvania (WCU) is a public university in West Chester, Pennsylvania, in the north-eastern United States, less than an hour from Philadelphia; it also has a Philadelphia location. According to the university, U.S. News ranks it 10th among the best public regional universities in the North. The main campus is a ten-minute walk from downtown West Chester.
WCU offers more than 180 academic opportunities: 64 undergraduate programmes, 43 tracks, 90 minors and 44 fields of study, from accounting to African American studies and marine biology, as well as master's degrees and graduate certificates; some bachelor's degrees have an accelerated route to a master's. Colleges include:
- College of Arts and Humanities
- College of Business and Public Management
- College of Education and Social Work
- College of Health Sciences
- College of the Sciences and Mathematics
International applicants need, for example, TOEFL iBT 80 or IELTS 6.0; through a partnership with ELS Language Centers, eligible students can be admitted conditionally. Some first-year merit scholarships do not require the FAFSA and are open to international applicants. More than 5,300 students live in 12 residence halls, and there are over 300 clubs and organisations.

International applicants should send the application and all documents six months before the intended start. Requirements:
- Online application and a non-refundable US$45 fee
- Official transcripts and exam results, with official translations if not in English
- Test scores (IELTS, TOEFL, Duolingo, SAT or ACT) sent directly by the testing agency
- Transfer applicants: a course-by-course credential evaluation by a NACES member (e.g. ECE or WES)
Education majors should note that teacher certification in Pennsylvania requires U.S. citizenship or permanent residence.
Minimum English scores:
- TOEFL iBT 80 (4.5 on the new 1-6 scale) or 550 paper-based
- IELTS 6.0 overall, with 6.0 in each section preferred
- Duolingo 105
SAT or ACT scores can supplement the TOEFL. Through a partnership with ELS Language Centers, eligible students can be admitted conditionally and enrol as degree students after completing ELS Level 112.
International students cannot receive U.S. government aid, but some first-year merit scholarships at WCU do not require the FAFSA. To be considered, applicants should apply early in the autumn of their final school year and be accepted by 15 January. International students also often receive awards from outside organisations.
More than 5,300 students live in WCU's 12 residence halls, and 90% of first-year students live on campus. There are three styles of residence (traditional community-style rooms, suites and apartments) and two options: WCU Managed Housing (community-style) or USH Affiliated Housing (suite-style). The campus has 18 dining options and 24-hour security; the 2026-27 housing application for new students opened in March 2026.
