Whitman College is a small, private residential liberal arts college in Walla Walla, Washington, in the United States. It was founded in 1859 as Whitman Seminary and became a non-sectarian, four-year, degree-granting college in 1882. The college reports a student-to-faculty ratio of 10:1.
Whitman offers more than 80 majors and programmes, from anthropology, art and astronomy to biochemistry, biology, environmental studies and global literatures, and over 80 off-campus study programmes in nearly 40 countries. Its International Student & Scholar Services office supports students from abroad.
International applicants apply through the Common Application with TOEFL, IELTS or Duolingo scores (unless exempt), school reports and a teacher evaluation; SAT or ACT scores are optional but encouraged. Whitman offers need-based and merit-based scholarships to international students and states that it meets 100% of demonstrated need for those admitted, although admission is highly need-aware for international applicants. Students live in residence halls and interest houses, including language houses such as La Casa Hispana, with apartments and college-owned rentals for juniors and seniors.

Need-based aid is calculated from the Whitman International Student Financial Aid Application (WISFAA), and the college states that it meets 100% of demonstrated need for international students offered admission; it does not use the CSS Profile. Merit scholarships may go to students without financial need, with no extra materials required, and talent scholarships exist in fine arts, debate, music, outdoor recreation, and theatre and dance. Admission is highly need-aware: fewer than 2% of international applicants needing full support without other funding are admitted.
