Admission Requirements

International first-year applicants apply online and email their secondary school records and diplomas to the international admissions office; documents not in English need a notarized English translation. The office converts foreign grades as part of the review. SAT or ACT scores are optional, and personal statements and recommendation letters are only required for some majors. Freshman decisions are made on a rolling basis.

After acceptance, all new students take a placement test in reading, writing and mathematics. The I-20 (F-1 visa) or DS-2019 (J-1 visa) is issued once all admission requirements are met; it requires a passport valid for at least six months and proof of funds for the length of the programme.

Language Requirements

First-year international applicants must prove their English level with one of these minimum scores:

  • TOEFL iBT: 79
  • IELTS Academic: 6.0 overall
  • Duolingo English Test: 105
  • Oxford ELLT: 6.0
  • PTE Academic: 53

The requirement may be waived for citizens or graduates of schools in countries on the university's waiver list, or with an English Medium of Instruction (MOI) letter from the most recent school, accepted for up to five years.

Financial Aid

International students on the main campus can receive the Pioneer Award, a discount of up to 80% on the difference between in-state and out-of-state tuition. International students are also eligible for scholarships, grants and financial aid; some merit scholarships may require SAT or ACT scores.

Housing

The university has housing for 1,800 students in eight residence halls on campus, including Skyline Hall, opened in fall 2019. Parts of the residence halls are set aside for learning communities.
