ALBA Study Abroad in Barcelona, Spain
Study abroad program in Barcelona, Spain
ALBA Study Abroad is a small study abroad programme in the centre of Barcelona, next to Plaça de Catalunya. It is an accredited programme of Portland State University (Oregon), through which students from any university receive U.S. undergraduate transfer credit, and a partner of the University of Washington Foster School of Business. ALBA is a member of APUNE, the association of North American university programmes in Spain.
Students enrol for one quarter or semester, or for consecutive terms up to a full academic year; the programme runs year-round and includes a six-week summer intensive. Areas of study range from art and business to sociology, political science and Spanish, with Spanish classes for all levels, and professors teach in English. Classes have 2 to 15 students, with an average of 50 students per term. Through a collaboration with Universitat Pompeu Fabra, ALBA students can also take UPF classes. Cooking classes and field trips are included.
Housing options are an ALBA shared apartment, a family homestay, a student residence or independent housing. Applicants must be at least 18, in good standing at their home institution, with a 2.5 GPA and sophomore, junior or senior standing; no previous Spanish courses are required.
