CAREL (Centre d’Étude des Langues) is a language centre in Royan, France. It was founded in 1966 by the Université de Poitiers and the City of Royan. It offers courses in German, English, Spanish, French as a first language and French as a foreign language (FLE) for young people, students and adults, both French and international. According to the centre, more than 3,000 people attend each year, including 900 trainees of different nationalities.
Courses are taught in person at the centre in Royan and remotely, with free online placement tests. CAREL is an approved examination centre for the DELF and DALF diplomas and is authorised for the TOEIC, CLOE, TCF IRN and Examen Civique certifications.
In summer, an all-inclusive Juniors programme for ages 12 to 17 combines 15 hours of French lessons per week with lunches, 15 hours of sports activities per week and half-board homestay accommodation. Classes have a maximum of 15 pupils and participants need at least level A1.

Housing
Accommodation is described for the summer Juniors programme (ages 12 to 17): students stay with a host family on a half-board basis, with breakfast and dinner taken with the family. They arrive on Sunday evening and leave on Saturday morning; on two-week stays the Sunday in between is spent with the family.
