Central South University (CSU)

Central South University (CSU) is a key university directly under China's Ministry of Education, located in Changsha, the capital city of Hunan Province. It was formed in April 2000 through the merger of Hunan Medical University, Changsha Railway University and Central South University of Technology; its oldest predecessor, Xiangya Medical University, was founded in 1914. CSU was one of the earliest universities admitted to China's "Project 211".

The university has 33 schools and covers 11 fields, including engineering, science, medicine, management, economics, law and the humanities. According to the university, it has more than 64,000 full-time students, about 36,000 of them undergraduates and 26,000 graduate students, plus over 2,200 overseas degree students. It has 104 undergraduate programmes, 89 of which currently admit students, and offers an eight-year medical programme (Doctor of Medicine). It also runs three large Class A general hospitals, the Xiangya hospitals. CSU cooperates with 320 universities and research institutes in 65 countries and regions.

International students can apply for Chinese language programmes, undergraduate and graduate degrees, non-degree study and short-term training programmes through the university's online application system.
