Ghent University

Ghent University is a university in Belgium, founded in 1817. It is located in and around Ghent, Kortrijk (Courtrai), Bruges and Ostend, and it also runs Ghent University Global Campus (GUGC) in Songdo, South Korea. The university is organised into eleven faculties, offers more than 200 programmes, including 69 English-taught master's programmes, and conducts research in a wide range of scientific domains.

Only a few bachelor programmes are taught entirely in English: three at GUGC in South Korea (Environmental Technology, Food Technology and Molecular Biotechnology) and the Bachelor of Social Sciences, whose application and enrolment are managed by VUB. For international students the main options are:

• English-taught master and advanced master programmes
• International joint master programmes run by international consortia
• International Course Programmes for students from developing countries
• PhD studies, through an open position or by approaching a professor
• English-taught courses for exchange students
• Summer courses and lifelong learning through the Nova Academy

Exchange students, for example Erasmus students, stay between one and twelve months and remain enrolled at their home institution, so they do not receive a Ghent University diploma. The university's Housing Office rents out rooms, studios and flats in its halls of residence to international students and PhD fellows and gives advice on the private rental market, where student accommodation is in short supply.
