Glasgow School of English is an English language school in the centre of Glasgow, Scotland, established in 1997. It is at 180 Hope Street, a two-minute walk from Sauchiehall Street and Buchanan Street, and has nine classrooms, recently renovated with improved technology. The school is accredited by the British Council under the Accreditation UK scheme and is licensed by UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) as a student sponsor. Teachers are qualified to teach English as a foreign language, most of them with Cambridge CELTA or Trinity TESOL certificates, and classes are small.

The school runs a social and cultural programme for its students. It arranges accommodation with inspected homestay hosts or at the Foundry Courtyard student residence. Students apply with an application form or online, and take an online placement test once the booking has been processed.

Admission

Applicants send the application form by email or apply and pay online, then pay a course deposit of £190 (or the full fee if the course costs less). The school sends a Confirmation of Booking and a link to an online placement test. Visa needs depend on nationality and course length: up to six months, no visa or a Visitor visa; six to eleven months, a Short-term study visa; twelve months or more, a Student visa.

Housing

The school arranges accommodation in Glasgow, subject to availability, and inspects all its accommodation providers:

  • Homestay with an English-speaking host
  • Foundry Courtyard student residence, for more independence

A non-refundable accommodation booking fee of £50 applies, except for full-time courses (15 hours a week or more) of 12 weeks or longer.
