The Royal Canadian Institute of International Studies (RCIIS) is an English language school in midtown Toronto, a three-minute walk north of Davisville subway station. It has been teaching English to international students since 1999. RCIIS is a Designated Learning Institution (DLI number O19440339342) and a member of Languages Canada. According to the school, it receives more than 1,500 students a year from over 50 countries.

Courses run from beginner to advanced level, in the morning, afternoon or evening, in person and in some cases as teacher-led online classes. The programme range includes:

  • General English: ESL Foundation, Power Speaking and Pre-Academic 1-4
  • English for Academic Purposes (EAP), which prepares students for Canadian post-secondary study
  • IELTS preparation
  • Business English, Café English and customer service English
  • STAR Accent Reduction and pronunciation classes
  • French courses, including TEF exam preparation

The RCIIS certificate gives access to partner colleges and universities through a pathway programme without IELTS or TOEFL. New students can take a 70-question online level test and a free trial class. The school has more than 20 classrooms, a student lounge and a kitchen, and it lists seven housing options, including homestays, a student residence and shared or private apartments.

Programmes

English and French courses from beginner to advanced level, Monday to Friday, in morning, afternoon and evening sessions:

  • Morning: ESL Foundation, Power Speaking (Pre-Intermediate to Pre-Advanced), Pre-Academic 1-4, IELTS & Academic Fluency
  • English for Academic Purposes (EAP), 9 AM-2 PM, preparation for Canadian post-secondary studies
  • Afternoon: Business English, Café English, Customer Service & Job Preparation English, STAR Accent Reduction and Intonation, Everyday Expressions, Exploring Canadian Culture, English Through Media
  • Evening: Evening IELTS, French A1/A2, French A2+/B1, French 4: TEF Preparation

The RCIIS certificate leads to college and university pathway partners without IELTS or TOEFL.

RCIIS lists seven accommodation options for its students:

  • CCNM Residence, open year-round, a few steps from Leslie subway station
  • City Place apartments in the Downtown Lakeshore area
  • Dream House private rooms and single or shared apartments (placement fee waived for RCIIS students)
