San Diego State University (SDSU) is a public research university in San Diego, California, and one of 23 universities in the California State University (CSU) system. SDSU describes itself as an R1 institution and states that it has been rooted in the San Diego region for over 128 years. The main campus is about 30 minutes from the US-Mexico border; the university also runs SDSU Imperial Valley, SDSU Global Campus and SDSU Georgia in Tbilisi.

SDSU offers more than 200 undergraduate and graduate programmes through its colleges:

  • College of Professional Studies and Fine Arts
  • College of Sciences
  • College of Graduate Studies

Students can take part in internships, research and study abroad; SDSU states that it ranks third nationally for students studying abroad. Applications are made through Cal State Apply, the CSU common application. Undergraduate applications are accepted from 1 October to 30 November for the following fall, and transfer students are admitted at upper-division level only. Students who will attend on an F-1 visa follow a separate international application route and are supported by the International Student Center. SDSU Global Campus offers online degrees and certificates for adult learners. Campus life includes more than 400 student organisations and NCAA Division I athletics.

Deadlines

Undergraduate applications for fall 2027 admission are accepted from 1 October to 30 November 2026 through Cal State Apply. Graduate programmes publish their own deadlines.
