The Universidad Católica del Uruguay (UCU) is a private Jesuit university with its central building in Montevideo and a campus in Salto. Its origins go back to the Instituto de Filosofía, founded in 1954. In 1984 a government decree authorised the Universidad Católica del Uruguay "Dámaso Antonio Larrañaga", and in 1985 the Sacred Congregation for Catholic Education decreed its foundation. The university works in the educational tradition of the Catholic Church and the Society of Jesus.

UCU offers undergraduate degrees, postgraduate programmes through its Escuela de Postgrados and the UCU Business School, and continuing education courses. Programmes mentioned on its website include:

  • Medicine, Nursing and Dentistry
  • Industrial, Electronic, Food, Environmental and Agricultural Engineering
  • Business Administration (Dirección de Empresas) and Communication
  • MBA and Doctor of Business Administration (DBA)

Five degree programmes, including Dentistry and Nursing, are accredited under the Mercosur regional ARCU-SUR system, and the MBA holds EFMD Programme Accreditation. Industrial Engineering students can complete their studies in France with ICAM and earn an additional master's degree. A language centre helps students improve their English and learn other languages. Prospective students can contact the admissions office at [email protected].
