Universidad Diego Portales

University, Graduate school in Santiago de Chile, Chile

Universidad Diego Portales (UDP; Diego Portales University) is a private non-profit university in Santiago, Chile, with its main address at Manuel Rodríguez Sur 415. It was founded on 4 October 1982 as a private foundation that grew out of the professional institute IPEVE, which had operated since 1963, and began teaching in March 1983 with three faculties. On 18 March 1993 Chile's Consejo Superior de Educación granted it full autonomy, allowing it to award all types of degrees and titles independently.

UDP teaches undergraduate degree programmes, evening programmes and doctorates in ten faculties:

  • Business and Economics
  • Architecture, Art and Design
  • Social Sciences and Humanities; Communication and Letters
  • Law; Education; Psychology
  • Engineering and Science
  • Medicine; Health and Dentistry

A long-term growth plan launched in 2002 expanded undergraduate provision from 13 to 30 programmes, and since 2003 the teaching model has been built around interdisciplinary study and student choice. The university also runs applied research centres and the Nicanor Parra Library, and students can join sports teams and student organisations.
