Alicante (Alacant in Valencian), on the Mediterranean coast of the Valencian Community, had 366,221 inhabitants on 1 January 2025 according to the National Statistics Institute (INE). It is a popular place for short Spanish courses: the centre, the old town and the beach are close together, and the climate is dry and sunny, with only 311 mm of rain and about 2,850 hours of sunshine a year at the AEMET Alicante station (normals for 1981-2010). Courses run all year, so students can choose between a summer course and a quieter stay in winter.
