Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune

This is one of the best television and film institutions in India. The institute was founded in 1960 and its ambience has the best features of film production. All the courses enrol 14 students a year with the exception of acting which enrols 26 students annually. Two-thirds of these will be locals and the remaining will be international students. To get admission in these courses, a student needs to have a bachelor’s degree. This institution has two television studios and two film studio floors. Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI), Kolkata

This is the second best film institute after FTII. This institution was founded in 1995 and it is an independent learning institution that is governed by the country’s ministry of information and broadcasting. Just like FTII, this institution also provides post-graduate courses but in four courses alone. These courses are cinematography, editing, direction in screenplay and audiography. The institution offers a lot of learning opportunities to its students as they can watch films within the institution. The school has two theatres; the main theatre and the preview theatre. Besides these two theatres, the institution also has an open air theatre and a screen projection facility. The institution also has libraries that are well furnished. The institution enrols a number of 40 students every year and some of them are international students.

Whistling Woods International, Mumbai

This institution was founded in 2006 and its chair is Subhash Ghai who is an iconic filmmaker and the leader of the Mukta Arts Production. The institution is designed with professional guidance from the Australian Film, Radio and Television School. The school provides a course in the film-making industry that is modern and balanced. It also offers education in various facets of film-making. The structures in the institution are amazing and are furnished with the most recent equipment. 

The courses offered by Whistling Woods International are all full time and take a period of two years to complete. Center for Research in Art of Film and Television, Delhi

This is a non-governmental, non-profit institution and is registered as a public charitable trust whose goal is to pass on quality training in the discipline of television, film, and other types of media arts via short and long-term subjects with concentrations in different fields. This institution was started in 2009.

The teacher-student ratio in this institution is low as it only enrols 10 students in each course. It also has a guest faculty who come from the Mumbai Film Industry. Its curriculum is tailored towards film aesthetics, active experience founded on the present requirements of the industry and meticulous education that guarantees the students top placements in the industry. The courses offered by this institution are similar to those offered by the Film and Television Institute of India. It also offers other courses such as creative writing, news reading, and radio jockeying.

Asian Academy of Film and Television, Noida

This institution has been teaching students the art of film-making since 1993. The school was established as a substitute to film schools that were formal and it has been able to establish itself as the finest film schools in India. This is the only film school in India that has an International Organization for Standardization and has been certified by ISO 9001:2000.

This institution offers four programs to its students. These programs include a 3-month course, 1-year diploma, 2-years diploma, and a 3-years diploma. All these programs are founded on the impact of media on the daily lives of people in the world. The institution provides nearly all the subjects a student wants to pursue in the television and film-making industry. The institution has modern structures required for the courses. L V Prasad Film and TV Academy, Chennai

This institution is part of the Prasad group and was established by L.V. Prasad who was a well-known movie producer and director. Most of the faculty members were former professors at FTII, thus providing state-of-the-art training to the students.

Some of the courses offered at the institution include video camera & lighting, cartoon animation film making, video editing & sound recording, and film and nonlinear editing just to mention a few. There are also a number of postgraduate courses such as diploma in acting, and Master of Science in multimedia among others. The lecture rooms are well equipped with modern infrastructure. Digital Academy The Film School, Mumbai
