About Torrevieja

Torrevieja is a coastal city in the south of the province of Alicante, in the Valencian Community, and belongs to the Vega Baja district. It had 98,533 inhabitants on 1 January 2025, according to the official municipal register figures published by the National Statistics Institute (INE). The city sits next to the salt lagoons of La Mata and Torrevieja, and the town council notes that 52% of the municipality is a natural park.

Torrevieja has a very international population. According to the council's own register, in August 2023 its residents came from 122 nationalities, and Spanish citizens made up 51.9% of the population. The local economy is based mainly on residential tourism and services. For learners, this makes Torrevieja a place to study languages, including Spanish, in a very mixed community; it has no university of its own in our directory.

For the 2026-27 academic year, the EOI explains how admission works:

  • applications for a place from 4 to 10 September, online through the regional system
  • up to three languages per academic year
  • no certificate needed for the first course (1A2); higher courses require a placement test or a language certificate
  • students without a Spanish NIF or NIE complete their enrolment in person at the school
