AESA Prep Academy of Barcelona is an American high school at Carrer de Montevideo 31 in Barcelona. It is part of the AESA International School System, which also has campuses in Texas and an online programme, and it follows a U.S.-based college-preparatory curriculum that ends with an American high school diploma. The school is accredited by Cognia (formerly AdvancED/SACS) and is a member of EPIC, the association of independent private schools of Catalonia.
Each year students take four core subjects: Literature, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies. The programme also includes:
- World languages: Spanish and Catalan
- Fine arts, physical education and health
- Communication electives such as journalism and creative writing
- Honors courses and accelerated tracks
Classes are small, and the timetable is flexible for student-athletes and young artists who combine school with training or performance. The school states that it has experience with English language learners and students with mild learning differences such as dyslexia and ADHD. It is aimed at families living in or moving to Barcelona and at international students who want a U.S. high school diploma abroad. Applications are made online with an application form and the required documents.
