Alabama A&M University

Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University (AAMU) is a public, historically Black university (HBCU) and 1890 land-grant institution in Huntsville, Alabama. It was founded in 1875 by Dr. William Hooper Councill, a former slave, and its campus, known as "The Hill", lies a short distance from downtown Huntsville. As a land-grant university, AAMU combines teaching, research and public service, including extension work. It has an enrolment of 7,295 students.

AAMU offers more than 60 undergraduate, graduate and certificate programmes and concentrations, from bachelor's and master's degrees to the educational specialist (EdS) degree and doctorates, preparing students for careers in the arts, sciences, business, engineering, education, agriculture and technology. Teaching is organised in four colleges:

• College of Agricultural, Life and Natural Sciences
• College of Engineering, Technology and Physical Sciences
• College of Education, Humanities and Behavioral Sciences
• College of Business and Public Affairs

The university also has an Honors Program, online programmes, an international faculty and more than 50 student organisations. Undergraduate admissions provides information for international, transfer and dual-enrollment students, and AAMU has announced a waiver of ACT/SAT testing requirements for enrolment.
