Troy University (TROY) is a public university in Alabama with a network of campuses in the state and programmes worldwide. It was founded on 26 February 1887 as Troy State Normal School to train teachers for Alabama's schools. Its historic main campus is in the town of Troy; other campuses are in Dothan, aimed at adult learners, and Montgomery, with evening, online and blended classes for non-traditional students. Regional offices in Tampa, Atlanta, Sumter, Fort Walton Beach and San Antonio extend its reach.
TROY offers more than 240 undergraduate and graduate programme options, including doctoral programmes, on campus, online or in a blended format, with a student-to-faculty ratio of 15:1. Academic colleges include the College of Arts and Humanities, the Sorrell College of Business, the College of Science and Engineering and the College of Education and Behavioral Sciences. High-achieving students can join the University Honors Global Scholars Program.
The main campus has students from more than 60 nations, a study abroad programme, 16 Division I athletic teams, more than 150 student organisations and a range of housing and dining options. The university states that it awarded more than $24 million in scholarships last year. International students follow their own admission requirements and apply online.

Application, $20 application fee, TOEFL 500+ [525+ graduate], transcripts with acceptable academic record are required. Students with less than 500 TOEFL may be admitted but must take intensive English classes first. Students lacking TOEFL will be tested upon arrival and placed either in intensive English language classes or academic classes, depending upon the test results.

Per Semester - Tuition $3020, fees approximately $300
TROY states that it awarded more than $24 million in scholarships last year. Academic scholarships for incoming first-year students are tied to test scores and GPA, for example the Scholar Plus Award (ACT 33-36 or SAT 1450-1600, GPA 3.7), the Scholar Award (ACT 30-32 or SAT 1360-1440, GPA 3.7) and the Chancellor's Award (ACT 26-29 or SAT 1230-1350, GPA 3.5). Transfer students can receive the Presidential Transfer Scholarship or the One TROY Transfer Scholarship. For study abroad, the Chancellor's Award for Global Competitiveness provides up to $5,000. Federal and state financial aid information is available from the university.
Students must be admitted to TROY before applying for on-campus housing (application fee $100). The main campus has residence halls, Greek houses and University Apartments, and the housing contract covers the academic year. Prices for 2026-2027 range from $2,225 to $4,490 depending on hall and room type; University Apartments cost $485 to $515 per month. Fall 2027 applications open on 1 October 2026, with a priority deadline of 1 March 2027; later applicants are waitlisted with no guarantee of a room. New students under 19 must live on campus unless living with a parent or guardian, and most residents need a meal plan. The housing office also lists off-campus apartments in Troy.
Troy State University offers far too many services and activities to list. We have a great variety of on-campus facilities including in and out door swimming, theater, concerts, tennis, golf course, health club, sports bar, food court, cafeteria, etc. Many sports and cultural activities.
The International Center provides special services for international students including inter-cultural activities, trips to nearby beaches and major towns, shopping trips, and many other activities.
