The American School of Madrid (ASM) is a not-for-profit K-12 international school with an American curriculum, open to students of all nationalities since 1961. English is the language of instruction. The school states that about one third of its students are American, one third Spanish and one third from some 60 other countries.
ASM is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, recognised by the Spanish Ministry of Education and certified by the International Baccalaureate Organization. Its study options include:
- American college-preparatory education
- International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma in grades 11 and 12
- A programme recognised by the Spanish Ministry of Education that gives access to Spanish universities
The school is organised into a Lower School (ages 3-10), Middle School (ages 11-14) and Upper School (ages 15-18). According to the school, 92% of the Class of 2026 passed the IB Diploma. ASM offers after-school activities and athletics, a bus service, a cafeteria and a summer programme. Admission starts with a preliminary application, and open days are held on campus and online during the school year. Needs-based financial aid is limited and temporary.

Scholarships and financial aid
ASM offers needs-based financial aid, which is limited and temporary and intended for families facing sudden financial difficulties; enquiries go to [email protected]. Families with three or more children receive a 10% reduction for the third child and 20% for each additional child, on both tuition and the one-time enrolment fee.
