More information about Graduate Programs

About 80 graduate degree and certificate programmes, on campus and online, through the Williams School of Graduate Studies, for example the MS in Accounting, MS in Applied Data Analytics, MA in Appalachian Studies and graduate certificates such as Addiction Counseling and AI in Business. Doctorates are offered in education and psychology, and a hybrid Doctor of Nursing Practice starts in fall 2026. Through the accelerated master's programme, undergraduates can take graduate courses in their senior year.

Admission Requirements

International undergraduates (first-year or transfer) submit the online application with a non-refundable $65 fee, an official secondary school transcript and official test scores (TOEFL, IELTS, Duolingo, SAT or ACT). First-year applicants with a weighted GPA below 2.8 on the 4.0 scale must submit SAT or ACT scores; grades from other systems are converted by the university. Transfer credit from a foreign university requires a course-by-course evaluation by a NACES member agency. A CV or activity list and a personal statement are recommended but not required. Decisions are usually sent within two to four weeks of a complete application.

Language Requirements

Applicants from countries where English is not the official language, and who have not completed at least one academic year taught in English, must submit English proficiency scores. TOEFL, IELTS, the Duolingo English Test, SAT and ACT are accepted.

Financial Aid

The completed application to App State also serves as the scholarship application, so no extra information is needed for most university merit scholarships. The Chancellor's Scholarship (with admission to the Honors College) and specific health sciences and education scholarships require additional steps. Fall first-year applicants who apply early receive guaranteed consideration for most scholarships.
