The University of North Carolina at Pembroke (UNC Pembroke, UNCP) is a public university in Pembroke, North Carolina, part of the UNC System, located between the state's beaches and the Sandhills. It was founded in 1887 to serve American Indian students. Today it has more than 8,000 students, from over 50 countries, and is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).

UNCP offers more than 150 undergraduate and graduate programmes in seven colleges and schools:

  • Esther G. Maynor Honors College

Its Bachelor of Science in Computer Science gained ABET accreditation in 2026. Students have opportunities for research, internships and study abroad, and the university also offers online degrees and more than 250 short-term online courses. Through the NC Promise plan, all undergraduates pay reduced tuition. International applicants follow a specific application route. First- and second-year students are required to live on campus, and there are more than 120 student organisations.

Housing

UNC Pembroke offers on-campus housing ranging from traditional residence halls to apartments, with single and shared rooms. Rooms are furnished, utilities and wireless internet are included, and each building has laundry facilities; housing has dedicated campus police officers. First- and second-year students must live on campus, with exemptions available, for example, for students over 21, married students or veterans. The university does not provide family housing. Contracts run for the academic year (August to May) or for 12 months, and the non-refundable housing application fee is US$150.
