Benjamin Franklin International School (BFIS) is an American international school in Barcelona's Sarrià neighbourhood, next to the Collserola Natural Park. It opened in September 1986 and is run as a non-profit organisation. The school has about 700 students from over 60 nationalities, from the age of three to eighteen.
BFIS follows an American curriculum from Nursery to Grade 5, combined with International Baccalaureate programmes in the upper grades:
- Early Childhood (Nursery and Pre-Kindergarten)
- Elementary School (Kindergarten to Grade 5), American curriculum
- IB Middle Years Programme (MYP), Grades 6 to 10
- IB Diploma Programme (IBDP), Grades 11 and 12, offered since 2011
Every student is invited to take the IB Diploma Programme. Two counsellors support university applications, one for universities in Spain and one for universities worldwide, and English language specialists support students who are still learning English. Admissions are rolling and open all year: families apply online through OpenApply, submit school reports and teacher questionnaires, and the child is then assessed or observed.
