Istituto Italiano Statale Comprensivo di Barcellona
Primary and secondary school in Barcelona, Spain
The Istituto Italiano Statale Comprensivo di Barcellona is the Italian state school in Barcelona, part of the network of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAECI). It operates on two sites: primary and lower secondary school at Carrer Setanti 10-12, and the upper secondary school (liceo) at Carrer de L'Esperança 20. An Italian officially recognised nursery school (Scuola dell'Infanzia Italiana Paritaria) shares the primary site.
- Primary school (scuola primaria)
- Lower secondary school (secondaria di primo grado)
- Liceo scientifico "E. Amaldi": four years, ages 14 to 17
Italian is the main language of instruction, and the language curriculum at every stage also includes Catalan, Spanish and English. The Italian curriculum is adapted to the local context and includes the subjects of the local curriculum, so that studies completed at the school can be recognised by the local education authorities. The liceo timetable has 35 hours a week (34 in the first year), covering subjects such as Italian, Latin, mathematics, physics, science, philosophy, history of art, Spanish, Catalan and local culture.
Enrolment for the 2026-27 school year is handled through forms and a points-based admission criteria document published on the school's website.
