The Maspalomas campus of Canterbury School is the south Gran Canaria site of a British international school founded in 1972 by Beryl Pritchard. It is located at Carretera Palmitos Park 8 in Maspalomas and teaches Infantil and Primary pupils aged 3 to 10. Canterbury School as a whole has more than a thousand students of many nationalities, aged 18 months to 18 years, across three campuses.
The school provides a British education with English immersion, together with a strong emphasis on Spanish language and literature and Canarian culture. Older pupils continue at the San Lorenzo campus in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, which offers Primary, Secondary and Bachillerato for ages 6 to 18; Canterbury School is an IB World School authorised to teach the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, and a third language is studied from age 11.
Canterbury School is not selective and accepts pupils from any area of residence. Children can join at any point in the school year if places are available; otherwise they go on a waiting list. Admission starts with a guided visit with the admissions team, followed by an application and the admissions paperwork; from Year 2 upwards the school asks for academic reports and a meeting with the head of department.
