The British School of Gran Canaria (BSGC) is a non-profit British international school with two campuses: Tafira, near Las Palmas, which has primary and secondary sections, and a primary campus near Maspalomas in the south of the island. Together they have about 650 students aged 3 to 18 from more than 40 nationalities, with Spanish nationals the largest group. The school states that it is the only school in Gran Canaria accredited as a British School Overseas (BSO) and the only member of COBIS on the island.
Teaching follows the National Curriculum of England, adapted to local and national requirements, and is delivered in English from Nursery to Year 13 in six stages:
- Early Years Foundation Stage (Infants, from age 3)
- Key Stages 1 and 2 (Juniors / Primary)
- Key Stages 3 and 4 (Secondary), with IGCSE exams
- Key Stage 5 (Sixth Form), with A Levels
Graduates mainly go on to universities in Spain and the United Kingdom. Admission includes a school visit and, depending on age, an English entrance test, a maths assessment and subject exams for older students, together with recent school reports. New students attend taster days before the school year starts.
