Clark University is a small research university with a strong liberal arts core in Worcester, Massachusetts (United States), New England’s second-largest city. It was founded in 1887 by Jonas Gilman Clark as the first all-graduate school in the United States. Clark has 2,112 undergraduate and 1,163 graduate students, a 9:1 student-to-faculty ratio and students from more than 80 nations.
Undergraduates choose from more than 45 majors plus minors and concentrations, and 4+1 accelerated master’s degrees are available. Graduate study includes master’s programmes, MBAs, MFAs and doctorates in fields such as business, data science, education, geography, psychology and genocide studies, across schools including the School of Business, the School of Climate, Environment, and Society and the Becker School of Design and Technology.
International applicants use the Common App or the Coalition App with Scoir; there is no application fee and SAT/ACT scores are optional. All applicants are considered for merit scholarships, and need-based aid is also available. The International Students and Scholars Office helps with visas and arrival, and the American Language and Culture Institute (ALCI) offers English programmes. Housing includes residence halls, restored houses and apartments.

International students (without US citizenship or permanent residency) apply under Early Decision, Early Action or Regular Decision, with the same deadlines as other applicants. All documents must be in English (originals may be added with certified translations):
- Common App or Coalition App with Scoir (no application fee)
- Transcripts covering the last three years of education
- Two letters of recommendation (school counselor and teacher)
- Proof of English proficiency
- International Student Certification of Finances and Financial Assistance Application Form
SAT/ACT scores are optional and an interview is optional but strongly encouraged. Admission is need-aware.
Applicants whose native language is not English submit an official TOEFL, IELTS, Duolingo or Pearson PTE score; proficiency is assessed holistically. Clark has no fixed minimums but gives these general indicators:
- TOEFL iBT: 4.5 overall (no sub-score below 4) on the scale used since January 2026, or 85 (no sub-score below 20)
- IELTS: 6.5 overall, no sub-score below 6
- Duolingo: 120 overall, no sub-score below 100
- PTE: 61 overall, no sub-score below 55
Admissible students who need more language support may be recommended the English for Academic Success Program (1-4 semesters).
Costs for the 2026-27 academic year (full-time undergraduates):
- Tuition: US$62,070; with student activity and health and wellness fees, US$63,210
- Room (standard double): US$8,580; food (standard meal plan): US$5,780
- International student fee: US$375; annual health insurance: US$2,833 (required unless comparable US coverage is proven)
According to Clark, international students typically pay around US$40,000 a year after scholarships and aid, out of a total cost of attendance of about US$85,000.
All undergraduate applicants, including international students, are automatically considered for merit scholarships. The Presidential Scholarship covers tuition, room and board for 3-5 students a year. Need-based aid requires the International Student Certification of Finances and Financial Assistance Application Form and the CSS Profile; Clark cannot cover the full cost of attendance. United World College graduates can receive a need-based Davis UWC grant of up to US$15,000 a year.
Clark offers residence halls, restored houses and apartments, with traditional, suite and apartment-style options depending on preferences and class year. Dining Services caters for kosher, vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and lactose-free diets, and there are several meal plans. A standard double room costs US$8,580 in 2026-27.
