Worcester State University is a public liberal arts and sciences university in Worcester, Massachusetts (United States), the second largest city in New England. It has 5,611 students, a student/faculty ratio of 15:1 and a 58-acre campus.
It offers more than 95 undergraduate majors and minors leading to B.S., B.A. and B.S.N. degrees, and more than 30 graduate programmes (M.S., M.A., M.Ed., Ed.S.). Students can also join the MajorPlus programme and take part in research and internships. The university also runs an Intensive English Language Institute (IELI).
The International Programs Office supports international students. Undergraduate applicants whose native language is not English need, for example, TOEFL 79 (or 4 on the new scale) or IELTS 6.5, and international students are automatically considered for a merit scholarship of up to $18,000 over eight semesters; there is no need-based aid for international students. About 1,600 full-time students live on campus in four residence halls, each with a live-in residence director.

International applicants start in the fall semester (September); spring entry is only possible in specific cases. Graduate applicants submit an online application with a $50 fee, GRE, MAT, MTEL or GMAT scores depending on the programme, and an evaluation of foreign degrees.
Undergraduate applicants whose native language is not English: TOEFL 79 (tests before 21 January 2026) or 4 (later tests), IELTS 6.5, Duolingo 100, Pearson PTE 50, DAAD B2, EIKEN Pre-1 or iTEP 3.5. Holders of an associate degree from a regionally accredited U.S. college are exempt. Graduate applicants: TOEFL 4.5 (or 79 before 21 January 2026), Duolingo 100, PTE 59, iTEP 4.0 or IELTS 6.5; the test is waived after the Bridge to University programme of the university's Intensive English Language Institute (IELI).
International undergraduates are automatically considered for a merit scholarship of up to $18,000 ($2,250 per semester for up to eight semesters), based on academic credentials. Renewal requires a cumulative GPA of 2.5, full-time day enrolment (12 or more credits) and out-of-state tuition classification. There are no need-based scholarships or financial aid for international students.
About 1,600 full-time students live on campus in four residence halls. Each hall has a full-time, live-in residence director, and each wing has a resident assistant. All Gender Housing lets residents choose roommates regardless of gender identity. Dining services are run by Chartwells.
