The Conservatori Superior de Música de les Illes Balears (CSMIB) is a public institution for the study and dissemination of music, located at Carrer Alfons el Magnànim 64 in Palma (Balearic Islands). It teaches higher music studies (enseñanzas artísticas superiores), which the conservatory states are equivalent in all respects to university bachelor's degrees (grados).
Students can choose between five specialities, with a classical and a jazz and modern music pathway:
- Classical performance (strings, wind, percussion, piano and voice)
- Jazz performance
- Composition
- Musicology
- Music education (Pedagogía)
An annual masterclass programme brings performers, composers, teachers and musicologists from around the world to the conservatory.
Admission has three stages: online registration in May and part of June, an entrance test (prueba de acceso) and enrolment. The CSMIB takes part in Erasmus+ and accepts incoming exchange students for one semester or a full academic year. Teaching is in Catalan; exchange students must understand Catalan or prove at least a B1 level in Spanish.
