New York City College of Technology (City Tech) is the designated college of technology of the City University of New York (CUNY). Founded in 1946, it is located at the foot of the Brooklyn Bridge in Downtown Brooklyn, next to MetroTech Center. In fall 2025 it enrolled 15,252 students, and it is recognised as a Hispanic Serving Institution and an Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander Serving Institution.

City Tech offers 58 degree programmes, 32 at bachelor's and 26 at associate level, in fields such as art and design, architecture, business, computer systems, engineering, entertainment, health care, hospitality, human services, legal studies, teacher education and the liberal arts and sciences. Programmes are grouped into three schools:

  • School of Technology and Design
  • School of Arts and Sciences
  • School of Professional Studies

Students come from more than 148 countries. The Office of International Student Services (OISS) advises international students on F-1 and J-1 status rules, employment options and life in New York City. Applications, including from abroad, are submitted through the CUNY Application.

Programmes

32 bachelor's and 26 associate degree programmes, for example:

  • School of Technology and Design: architectural technology, communication design, computer engineering technology, computer systems technology
  • School of Arts and Sciences: African American studies, biological sciences, chemistry, humanities
  • School of Professional Studies: business, dental hygiene, restorative dentistry, health services administration, vision care technology
  • Continuing Studies Center: real estate, teaching assistant and child care, information technology

Admission

Applicants use the CUNY online application and select City Tech and their preferred programme; admission is rolling, but early applications are recommended. International first-year applicants submit secondary school transcripts or statements of marks with English translations of foreign documents, plus TOEFL or IELTS scores. Associate programmes require a high school diploma with at least a 70 average (75 for allied health), and bachelor's programmes a 75 average. Transfer students need a minimum GPA of 2.0 and transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended.

Language requirements

International first-year and transfer applicants submit TOEFL or IELTS scores with these minimums: TOEFL iBT 61, paper-based TOEFL 500 or IELTS Academic 6.
