ESM Instituto de Investigación en Seguridad y Factores Humanos is a company with international reach that provides training, consultancy and research on human and organisational factors and safety culture, with the aim of controlling risk in transport and industry. According to the company, it has more than 30 years of experience in this field. Its multidisciplinary team includes specialists certified in human and organisational factors, and its general director is Pilar Calvo Holgado.

The training catalogue is organised by sector (rail, road, aviation, maritime and industry). Its courses include:

• Human and organisational factors in incident and accident investigation
• Leading a positive safety culture
• Human and organisational factors, introductory and advanced editions
• Just culture
• Non-technical skills (NTS) for different roles
• Situational awareness and risk perception
• Attention, fatigue, drowsiness and stress management
• Train-the-trainer courses in human and organisational factors

Besides training, ESM carries out R&D projects, field work and human reliability improvement programmes. Recent activities include a risk perception workshop for Metro de Málaga, an NTS workshop for investigators of the AITAT, the body that carries out technical investigation of rail, maritime and civil aviation accidents, and participation in a European Union Agency for Railways (ERA) course.
