Cyprus International University (CIU) is a university in Nicosia, North Cyprus. It opened in 1997 with 81 students and 45 staff and, according to the university, now has more than 14,000 students from 110 countries and more than 1,000 staff. CIU states that it was placed in the 651-700 band of the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2027.

CIU offers undergraduate, master's and PhD programmes. Its faculties and schools include:

  • Economics and Administrative Sciences, and Law
  • Engineering, and Fine Arts, Design and Architecture
  • Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy and Health Sciences
  • Tourism and Hotel Management, Foreign Languages, and several vocational schools

Applicants show English competence with TOEFL (65 iBT) or IELTS (5.5); students without a certificate take CIU's English proficiency exam after arrival. Applications are made online through the application portal. All international undergraduate students receive a 50% tuition fee scholarship. On-campus dormitories in 18 buildings house up to 2,790 students.

Admission Requirements

  • Undergraduate: application form, secondary school certificate or equivalent (e.g. O/A Level, WAEC/NECO), passport or birth certificate
  • Master's: bachelor's diploma and transcripts, CV
  • PhD: bachelor's and master's degrees with transcripts, research proposal

All applicants also submit proof of English and the signed CIU Rules and Regulations document. Eligible applicants receive an acceptance letter by e-mail after paying the initial deposit, can use it to apply for a transit visa at a Turkish embassy if needed, and are collected from Ercan Airport.

Language Requirements

Financial Aid

  • International student scholarship: 50% of tuition for all international undergraduates
  • Academic scholarships based on merit: 50% to 100% of tuition
  • Athletic scholarships for students with national-level sports performance
  • Master's and PhD scholarships for applicants with a bachelor's CGPA of at least 3.50

Housing

CIU has on-campus dormitories in 18 buildings with 2,790 beds, about a 3-minute walk from the faculty buildings. There are seven room types, including studios and apartment-style units, for 1 to 6 residents.
