EMU was founded in 1979 at Northern Cyprus as a higher studies educational institute. The university has 50 departments comprising of 7 faculties and schools which caters undergraduate, graduate and research students. University also has an English language institute where students can improve their English proficiency. EMU offers several sports and social activities apart from studies. The University has its own radio station known as Radio EMU, which is operated by the communications department. EMU is granted by the Council of Higher Education Commission and is bonafide member of the European University Association & the International Association of Universities.
