Undergraduates take a Chicago Quarter course in their first term, one of more than 100 courses about the city's neighbourhoods, culture and local issues, and many take part in service learning with more than 250 partner organisations. Graduate and professional programmes include law, nursing and public health.

Students educated outside the US during secondary school apply as international freshmen through the Common Application and must meet an English proficiency requirement; those slightly below it may be considered for conditional admission. DePaul also has an international exchange programme and a study abroad office. Students can live in residence halls in Lincoln Park or in the Loop.
