Saint Xavier University (SXU) is a private, four-year Catholic university in Chicago, founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1846. According to the university, it was Chicago's first Catholic university and the first Mercy institution of higher learning in the world. First-year programmes are taught on the Chicago campus, and graduate programmes are offered on campus, in hybrid format or fully online.
SXU offers bachelor's and master's degrees, endorsements and certificates. Main areas include:
- Nursing, including pre-licensure and accelerated BSN and graduate nursing
- Business, accounting, finance and analytics
- Computer science and cybersecurity
- Education and communication sciences and disorders
- Psychology, social sciences, arts and pre-health tracks
International applicants use a free online application and submit a course-by-course credential evaluation from ECE or WES, an English test (for example TOEFL iBT 80, IELTS 6.5 or Duolingo 115), a recommendation letter and proof of financial support. Merit scholarships of US$1,000 to US$4,000 per year are available for eligible international undergraduates. The campus has residence halls, dining and student activities.

Scholarships for graduate students are limited; graduate assistantships are available.
International first-year applicants submit:
- The free online application for undergraduate admission
- A course-by-course transcript evaluation from ECE or WES, sent directly by the evaluator, showing the equivalent of a high school diploma and GPA
- Official TOEFL, IELTS or Duolingo results
- A letter of recommendation
- A notarised affidavit of support and bank statement showing sponsorship of US$40,260 (US$53,760 if living on campus)
- A copy of the passport
Transfer applicants from international institutions also submit a course-by-course evaluation of their college coursework.
Minimum English scores for international applicants, sent directly by the testing organisation:
- TOEFL iBT 80 (paper-based 550, computer-based 213; TOEFL ITP not accepted)
- IELTS 6.5
- Duolingo English Test 115
Eligible international undergraduates can receive merit scholarships of US$1,000 to US$4,000 per academic year. Scholarship opportunities for graduate students are limited, but graduate assistantships are offered.
