Escola Superior Agrária de Bragança

The Escola Superior Agrária de Bragança (ESA) is a school of the Universidade Politécnica de Bragança (Bragança Polytechnic University) that describes itself as a school of biosciences. It is located on the Campus de Santa Apolónia in Bragança, a district capital in the Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro region of Portugal; the district borders Spain to the north and east.

The ESA is organised in five departments:

  • Environment and Natural Resources
  • Biology and Biotechnology
  • Animal Science
  • Social and Exact Sciences
  • Plant Production and Technology

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources, for example, teaches the core subjects of the bachelor's degrees (licenciatura) in Forest Engineering and Environmental Engineering and of the master's degree in Forest Resources Management. Its staff carry out research in fields such as forest and forest-soil management, landscape ecology, remote sensing and geographic information systems, and it has laboratories for geographic information, forestry, applied ecology, analytical chemistry, soils and climatology.
