Escola Superior de Conservació i Restauració de Béns Culturals de Catalunya

Higher education centre in Barcelona, Spain

The Escola Superior de Conservació i Restauració de Béns Culturals de Catalunya (ESCRBCC) is the Catalan higher school for the conservation and restoration of cultural property. It was created by the Generalitat de Catalunya (the Catalan government) because scientific and technological advances in the conservation and restoration sector had created a need for highly qualified professionals.

The school awards the Grau en Ensenyaments Artístics Superiors de Conservació i Restauració de Béns Culturals, a higher arts degree at level 2 of the Spanish Qualifications Framework for Higher Education, equivalent to a university bachelor's degree. The degree has been accredited by the Catalan university quality agency (AQU Catalunya). Students specialise in one of four areas:

  • Archaeological objects (Béns Arqueològics)
  • Graphic documents (Document Gràfic)
  • Sculpture (Escultura)
  • Painting (Pintura)

Two master's degrees are also taught: the Màster en Ensenyaments Artístics in conservation and restoration of photographic heritage, and the Màster en Ensenyaments Artístics in preventive conservation of movable and immovable cultural property. Admission to the degree requires the Bachillerato (or the university entrance exam for over-25s) and a specific entrance test; holders of a Técnico Superior de Artes Plásticas y Diseño qualification can apply for direct entry. Work placements are offered in institutions and museums. The ESCRBCC has taken part in Erasmus+ since 2014-15 and holds the Erasmus Charter (ECHE) for 2021-2027.
