Escuela de Idiomas Violeta Parra - Tandem Santiago is a Spanish language school in Santiago de Chile. It was founded in 1992 as Escuela de Idiomas Violeta Parra and has used the name Tandem Santiago since 1996, as a member of the TANDEM International network of schools. The school is housed in an early 20th-century mansion at Triana 853 in Providencia, a few minutes from Salvador metro station and the Bellavista district.

Group courses start every Monday all year, each level lasts one week and the average class has four students. Lessons last 45 minutes and are taught by native speakers with university degrees; online students can join classes by videoconference. Each student is matched with a Chilean language exchange partner, following the TANDEM method. A free excursion in Santiago is offered once a week, and paid weekend trips go to the Andes, national parks and the coast. The school arranges homestays, shared and furnished apartments and hotels, all within 45 minutes of the school by public transport, with a free airport minibus transfer for students who book lodging through it.

Programmes

Admission
Students enrol with the online enrolment form. Enrolment closes 9 days before the course starts; after that, places are only given directly at the school on a first-come, first-served basis. The school then sends a pro forma invoice within 24 to 48 hours, and the booking is confirmed with a non-refundable deposit. The balance is paid within the first two days of the course. Before starting, students complete a placement test, which should reach the school at least 5 days before the course begins. Special modules require at least an intermediate level.

Tandem Santiago arranges accommodation for course students and also for guests who do not take a course:

All lodgings are within 45 minutes of the school by public transport. Double rooms are only for two people travelling together, and overnight guests are not allowed unless announced in advance and paid for. Students who book lodging through the school get a free shared minibus transfer from the airport.
