The Escuela Oficial de Idiomas de Algeciras is a public language school of the Junta de Andalucía in Algeciras, created in the 2006-07 school year. It teaches English, French, Arabic and Spanish for foreigners (español para extranjeros), with curricula based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

The Spanish for foreigners programme covers Nivel Básico A1 and A2, and Nivel Intermedio B1 starts in the 2026-27 school year. Classroom courses have 4.5 hours of class per week, with morning and afternoon groups. The school also runs blended (semipresencial) courses, with 1.5 hours a week in class plus online work, and distance courses. English is taught up to C2 and French up to C1, and candidates can also register as free candidates (régimen libre) to sit the official certification exams.

Admission for 2026-27 took place from 1 to 20 May through the Junta de Andalucía's Secretaría Virtual; each applicant applies for one school, level, modality and language. Applicants without a recognised certificate enrol in first-year Básico and can request a placement test. Places are limited: in September 2026 the school reported that no Spanish places were left for 2026-27.

Admission Requirements

New students apply during the admission period through the Junta de Andalucía's Secretaría Virtual (for 2026-27: 1 to 20 May); each application is for one school, level, modality and language. For classroom courses, applicants must be 16 by 31 December of the year (14 for a language other than their first foreign language at secondary school).

Applicants without a recognised certificate apply for first-year Nivel Básico and may request a placement test. If there are more applicants than places, priority groups based on qualifications and employment status apply. Admitted students enrol in July. Applicants who missed admission can fill in the school's vacancy form; places are then given in order of arrival.
