Fayetteville State University (FSU) is a publicly supported historically Black university (HBCU) in Fayetteville, North Carolina, and a constituent institution of the University of North Carolina system. It was founded in 1867 by seven Black men to educate Black children and describes itself as the second oldest state-assisted institution in North Carolina. FSU offers over 60 bachelor's and master's degrees and a doctorate in educational leadership, with a student-to-faculty ratio of 20:1; its teacher education has been NCATE-accredited since 1954.
Programmes span business, education, health and nursing, sciences, criminal justice, computer science and cybersecurity, and the humanities. Distinctive options include:
- A criminal justice programme certified by the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences
- A GEOINT certificate accredited by the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency
- "3+2" dual degrees in chemistry or engineering with North Carolina State University
- Online degree completion programmes and an MBA
Undergraduate tuition is reduced through the state-funded NC Promise programme. International applicants submit transcripts evaluated by a recognised credentialing agency, TOEFL or IELTS scores and financial documents for the visa; the International Education Center helps with immigration and adjustment, and study abroad is available. Students can live in several residence halls and the University Place Apartments.
