Genki Japanese and Culture School

Genki Japanese and Culture School (GenkiJACS) is a Japanese language school with schools in Fukuoka, Tokyo, Kyoto, Nagoya and Okinawa. The Fukuoka school is in Hakata-ku. All schools follow the same course plan, with classes of up to eight students and new classes starting almost every Monday for all levels; complete beginners start on the first Monday of the month. Knowledge of hiragana is required for every level.

The Core Japanese Course has 20 lessons of 50 minutes per week: ten grammar lessons and ten language skills classes. It can be combined with modules and other options:

  • Plus Conversation (four extra classes per week)
  • Plus Cultural Activities on Saturdays
  • Private lessons, on site or online
  • Discounted 20-week, 1-year and 18-month courses
  • Summer Course for minors

Student visas for courses of up to 18 months are available only at the Fukuoka and Nagoya schools. Students at US universities can receive transfer credit through a School of Record. Accommodation options include homestays with a Japanese family, private rooms in shared houses and private apartments.

Classes have a maximum of eight students and start almost every Monday; complete beginners start on the first Monday of the month.

Housing

GenkiJACS arranges accommodation through third-party providers, host families or school-owned accommodation:

  • Homestay: private bedroom in a Japanese family home, with breakfast and dinner
  • Private residence: private bedroom in a house shared with other students or Japanese residents
  • Supervised residence with meals, for students aged 14 to 19 only
  • Private studio apartment for one person, or an apartment for two

In Nagoya, students can also book a one-night Weekend Homestay Experience with a Japanese family.
