HECUA is an organization, established in 1968, consisting of 18 liberal arts colleges, universities and associations, focused on providing education for social justice. HECUA is committed to organizing various study-abroad and off-campus study programs that address some of the most pressing issues within a community. HECUA programs combine an unparalleled approach to classroom-based work with an experiential, reflective, and critical look at the important social issues in today’s world. Each program represents a combination of discussion, readings, and reflection with on-going field experience through internships, field-work, and research projects. Programs include Writing for Social Change, Environmental Sustainability, City Arts, Environment and Agriculture, Community Internships and other similar options, organized in the USA, Norway, Ecuador, New Zealand and others.
