The Instituto Franklin-UAH (Instituto Universitario de Investigación en Estudios Norteamericanos "Benjamin Franklin") is a university research institute of the Universidad de Alcalá, founded in 1987 and devoted to North America. It describes itself as the only university institute for research on North America in Spain. Its mission is to act as a platform for communication and cooperation between Spain and North America. The institute is based in the Colegio de Trinitarios, Calle de la Trinidad 1, in Alcalá de Henares. Research focuses on Hispanics in the USA, bilingual education, and North American culture and society; the institute publishes the journals REDEN and Camino Real and organises international seminars and conferences.

In total the institute teaches eight master's programmes related to international and bilingual education and, according to the institute, receives 600 American students each year.

Programmes
Study Abroad in Spain is a university programme for international students, running since 1987. In the autumn and spring semesters students take four subjects for a total of 12 credits. The summer programme has two one-month sessions, June and July: one month allows 2 subjects (6 credits), both months up to 4 subjects (12 credits).
Graduate programmes
Teach & Learn in Spain: one-year master's programmes (September to June, 60 ECTS credits) for native or near-native English speakers, who work at the same time as conversation assistants in schools in the Community of Madrid and receive a monthly allowance. They are Máster de Formación Permanente qualifications accredited by the Universidad de Alcalá:
- International Education, Bilingual and Multicultural Education, Teaching, School Management and Global Higher Education (blended)
- Information and Communication Technology in Education and ESL and Bilingual Education (online)
The institute also offers a master's degree and doctoral training in American Studies.
