All programmes are taught in English.

• GSIR master's programmes: International Relations, International Development, Public Management and Policy Analysis, Japan-Global Development (two years)
• International Public Policy Program: one-year mid-career programme for diplomats and government officials, designed with JICA
• GSIR PhD programme in three research clusters
• GSIM: one- or two-year MBA, Intensive MBA, Digital Transformation, International Social Entrepreneurship, Japan Global Development

All programmes are taught in English, and applicants normally submit an English test score (TOEFL, IELTS or TOEIC). Exempt are applicants with at least four years of English-medium secondary education in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, the UK or the USA; those with a degree from an English-medium institution may be exempted if they provide evidence of the language of instruction.

Master's programmes, September 2027 intake, international applicants (Graduate School of International Relations): application deadlines 10 December 2026, 11 February 2027 and 14 April 2027 (three rounds).

PhD programmes: application periods ending 16 November 2026, 16 February 2027 and 16 April 2027.

IUJ awards scholarships competitively at the time of admission, either its own, through IUJ nominations or via independent applications; most require a Japanese student visa. Examples include:

• IUJ Nakayama scholarships, from 30% of tuition up to Nakayama Premium (full tuition, part of the admission fee and a monthly stipend of 100,000 yen)
• Scholarships from partner organisations such as the Asian Development Bank (ADB-JSP)
• MEXT scholarships with university recommendation

Applicants apply in the scholarship section of the online application. Further scholarships are open to enrolled students based on academic performance and financial need.

IUJ has a residential campus with three single-student dormitories and one apartment building for married students. Students must live on campus in their first year unless IUJ cannot provide suitable housing.

• Single dorm rooms: bed, desk, private bathroom and internet; shared lounges, kitchens and laundry; monthly fee of 32,000, 35,000 or 39,000 yen depending on the dorm
• Married student apartments: 18 small two-room units for couples without school-age children, allocated by lottery each October
• Families with children live off campus; IUJ can introduce landlords on its free shuttle-bus route to Urasa
